The U.S., on the other hand, will call both shrimp.
But shrimp and prawns are not one and the same.
Decapods include more than 8,000 crustacean species, including lobsters,crawfish, and even hermit crabs.

Here’s what you should know.
Prawns are typically larger than shrimp.
However, some shrimp can be bigger than prawns depending on the species.

(Shrimp are generallysized by the number of shrimp per poundat the grocery store.)
If the second shell segment overlaps the first and third, it’s a shrimp.
If the segments overlap down the abdomen, it’s a prawn.

Nutritionally, they are also very similar.
Can You Use Shrimp And Prawns Interchangeably?
Congratulationsyou’ve finally reached the bottom of this particular rabbit hole.

But if you’re just cooking for family and friends, relax.
Nobody will notice the difference.
Pair it with steamed rice and vegetables, like broccoli or snow peas.
