As an adult, Forrest made an epic run back-and-forth across the United States for no particular reason.
Its a memorable montage in an already memorable film and turns out it almost didnt happen.

Theres a famous section ofForrest Gumpthat was going to get cut, Colbert asks Hanks in the clip.
Hanks divulged to the South Carolinian host that yes, in fact that is true.
The entire section of the film where Forrest runs across America almost didn’t make it to the screen.

“Some studio exec always comes up and says ‘it’s not going to work.
you’re able to’t do it, it’s not going to work.
We don’t see the point in it.
Why shoot that?'”
They wanted to cut it, Hanks confirmed.
But the film’s director, Robert Zemeckis, and Hanks came up with a plan.
“This is actually movie economics 101,” Hanks joked with Colbert and the audience.
He then shared that Zemeckis suggested they pay for the sequence themselves.
