Smart moves and meaningful pieces bring this 1890 North Carolina home up to date.

Molly Williams comes by her decorating talents honestly.
But when Williams first moved toCharlotte, she wasnt sure where her passion for design would land her.

Before getting married, the two began searching for a place of their own.
They wanted something historic that they could infuse with their own style.
“When we found this one, I immediately fell in love with it,” says Williams.

“I grew up in Virginia in a 300-year-old house in the countryside, and my parents are hugeantiquescollectors.
I’m heavily influenced by that.”
Aside from a few smaller-scale renovations, the pair relied heavily on paintand teamworkto pull off the update.

But theres nothing so valuable that we dont feel like we can enjoy it."

Let Tradition Lead the Way
Williams leaned into the home’s past to design the dining room.

Inspired by Williamsburg, she wrapped a mural around the space.
Storied pieces also sit center stage here.

Moser, while a thrifted portrait from 1875 is displayed in her grandfathers frame over the mantel.
“There’s definitely a mix of high and low,” says Williams.
Focus on the Flow
Because there’s no hall closet, Williams selected a dresser for storage.

“I like to use Charlie’s grand-mother’s silver teapots as flower vases and vessels around the house,” says Williams.Credit:Brie Williams
She wrapped the foyer in a Schumacher grass cloth.
To keep costs down, they left the existing countertops and Charlie replaced thebacksplashhimself.
She chose an 18th-century pedestal table to root the renovated room in history.

There were no original wood floors here, so Williams covered the concrete slab with wall-to-wall sisal.Credit:Brie Williams
