Do Plants Repel Snakes?
Just anecdotal stories passed around," says Foley.
Agaves, yuccas, aloes, and pyracanthas are also uncomfortable for snakes.
Create a 24-to-36-inch space under trees and shrubs.
They are less likely to stay in areas where they are always exposed.
Water attracts worms, slugs, and frogs, which in turn may attract snakes seeking a meal.
Plus, that food attracts critters that snakes enjoy eating.
Feed pets indoors and reduce the number of feeders you have in the yard.
They also attract rodents that they enjoy eating.
Clean out trash piles and unnecessary yard clutter.
Consider Lava Rock Mulch
Similar to spiky plants, lava rocks are sharp and unwelcoming to snakes.
The rocks can be used instead of shredded bark or leaf compost mulch in landscaping beds.
Add a Fence
When all else fails, considerinstalling fencing.
Use 1/4 inch or smaller rigid mesh or wire hardware cloth about 4 feet high.
Bury it 6 inches into the ground and stake it every six feet.
Be sure to overlap the cloth by several inches at each seam.
