Plus, how many ways this role was a “full circle moment.”
In season 3, we experienced a new decadethe 1970s.
And we meet a teenage Del, played by Julia Tomasone.

It was a big responsibility.
I think thats how I looked at it.
And it was an honor.
Tomasone continued, I remember watchingMaidwhen it came out and I was thinking, she is a force.
I really hope to get the chance to work with her one day.
And I never imagined that a few years later Id be playing her younger self.
Talk about full circle.
I took a lot of time to prepare… She watched films, interviews, and podcasts featuring the actress.
It really doesnt sound like just where shes from and its because of all the traveling shes done.
Living in multiple places.
So that was really interesting to me.
Sounding like her specifically.
But also Southern sounds are super specific and Im Canadian.
So that was new and I loved it.
Tomasone also credits the help of her dialect coach Jeffrey Simlett for helping her get Del just right.
But it wasnt just the accent that was new to her.
I had a total physical transformation.
I actually have blue eyes and I dont have curly hair.
So that whole ensemble, like hair and makeup.
That was really cool for me to step into that character and better interpret the character.
And feel more like Andie too.
I wish my hair could look like that every day.
I loved it so much.
But there were a few things about this role that were very familiar for Tomasone.
The soundtrack is phenomenal.
And I mean “Waterloo” specifically, which is Dels favorite song is actually my favorite song.
She continued, My mom, she also grew up on a farm.
And so that was another full circle moment that I had.
Walking onto that set, it really felt like home.
