Each year we askSouthern Livings readers to name the best barbecue restaurant in eachSouthern state.
This time around, they seem to be in something of a traditional mood.
Without further ado, here are the readers picks for the best BBQ in every state in the South.

John A. Stephens came to East Tampa from Eufaula, Alabama, and opened Big John’s in 1968.
Guests dont have to hold back either, since the restaurants two big buffets are all-you-can-eat.
Theyre joined by rotating specials like chopped brisket cheesesteaks and pork or brisket tacos on housemade flour tortillas.

Most notable is the sliced pit beef, Marylands distinctive contribution to the American barbecue tradition.
Forget slow-smoked brisket, ribs, and chicken.
Thats not what folks in Lexington mean by barbecue.
