About This Episode

The Grumpy Gardener helps a reader with a fig tree dilemma.

Plus, Grumpys gripe ofthe week.

In 2011, my husband and I lost our home to the Joplin, Missouri tornado.

fig tree

He used to cut his fig tree to the ground every fall and let it regrow.

So I’ve been doing that too.

Is there something I should be doing differently?"

fig tree

A lot of figsproduce both, early and late season crops.

So if you’re severely pruning it in the fall, like cutting it to the ground.

So I would try not cutting it back so severely.

And keep that pass along tradition going.

And it’s a total fraud.

You’ll see things like redleaf hostas, bright red hostas.

We don’t have them.

You’ll see blue strawberries.

Wouldn’t that be great?

Well, they don’t exist.

You’ll see ears of corn with little human ears.

They’ll send you 10 of them, 10 little seeds, and charge you a fortune for them.

Have you ever seen it in anybody’s house before?

It doesn’t exist.

So don’t fall for this.
