Eggnog can be made ahead of time, which is definitely helpful in terms of easing holiday preparations.
Proceed with the rest of the recipe just before serving.
Gradually add 1/3 cup sugar and continue beating until the sugar dissolves.

Bring just to a simmer over medium heat.
Whisking constantly, add the warm milk mixture to egg yolk mixture in a slow, steady stream.
Chill eggnog:
Pour into a bowl or pitcher.
