Wreaths and garland start hitting shelves come September.

There are countdowns andadvent calendars galorethat all culminate on December 25.

Heck, Hallmark plays movies dedicated to the holiday all year, even beforeCountdown to Christmas kicks offin October.

I love a tacky Christmas sweater party as much as the next person.

My argument also doesnt take into account the less-than-rosy history behind Thanksgiving.

While both are important, theyre not exactly what Im after here.

The holidays agenda is simple: cook, gather, feast, go home.

And thats precisely what I love so much about it.

You get all the quality family time and fellowship of Christmas with far less fuss.

Sure, cooking a giant meal can be a bit stressful.

And once the table is set and people are chowing down, theres nothing else to worry about.

Except maybe whos going to get to take home the leftovers of Aunt Carols famoussweet potato casserole.

Christmas, on the other hand, takes weeks and months to prepare for.

Maybe youve got a Christmas Eve appetizer and cocktail party, or a specialChristmas morning breakfast.

And who hasnt made a Christmas Eve run for last-minute stocking stuffers and wrapping paper?

And if youre a parent, there a million other responsibilities.

Then theres staying up way past everyones bedtime to wrap Santas gifts.

The list truly does go on and on.

And dont even get me started on Elf on the Shelf.

Christmas, as much as I love it, can be a little high maintenance.

Thanksgiving on the other hand is Christmass low-key, laidback cousin.

The excitement may not be quite as high, but that also means the buildups anddisappointmentsarent quite as crushing.

I know I have.
