Im not picky whatsoever, and actually find myself a fan of most Southern delicacies, funky or not.
However, theres one Thanksgiving food secret I harbored for far too long: I hate pumpkin pie.

Which leads me to my next confusing realization: I dont hatesweet potato pie.
Obviously, the two pies seem more similar than almost any other holiday desserts.
Theyre both warmly spiced with smooth custard fillings in a pale orange hue.

I hear you, and Im sorry.
Now, a real Southern sweet potato piethat is one magnificent creation.
While one might assume the only difference is the main ingredient, apparently it makes quite the difference.

For apecan pie loverand pumpkin pie hater, that should be considered a roaring review.
It Has More Flavor
Perhaps the superiority comes down to the flavor of the sweet potatoes.
(For me, I don’t prefer going heavy on the cloves.)
Our Northern compatriots will be having pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving, but will they be having sweet potato pie?
Coconut milk is used to add sweetness.
