However, there are some food-safety factors to consider before leaving your pie out at room temperature.

“If eggs or dairy were used in a homemade pie, it should always be refrigerated.

Commercially prepared pies have preservatives to keep them safe for longer periods.

Should You Let Your Apple Pie Cool Before Storing?

Tiner recommends that your pie cools on the counter after pulling it from the oven.

You should never put a hot pie directly into the refrigerator to cool.

How Long Can Apple Pie Sit On The Counter?

“After two days the quality starts to diminish,” notes Tiner.

“The problem is the natural yeast in the air as well as other airborne molds.

These yeast and molds will land on the pie and start multiplying.”

But what if you don’t have an airtight container that will fit your apple pie?

“This will help keep the pie from getting stale,” says Marz.

A week after baking or purchasing, you should throw the pie out, Tiner says.

Can You Freeze Apple Pie?

The short answer is yes, you could freeze apple pie.

If your pie was already baked, wait for it to cool completely first.
