The weather’s warm and we all can’t wait to take a dip.
When Should You Open Your Pool?
This could be early to late spring, depending on where you live in the South.

It’s also good to wait until after filter-clogging events like peak pollen season.
What Materials Do You Need?
Give it a good sweep or brush to remove the majority of dirt and debris.

Rinse with a garden hose and allow to dry completely before storing it in a container for the season.
Use the pool skimmer to remove it so it won’t clog the filter when you reinstall it.
Step 3: Install Pool Equipment
Remove any winter plugs and replace with drain plugs.

Then inspect filters, pumps, and other equipment to check that it is in good condition before reinstalling.
Place ladders andother accessories.
Step 4: Top Off The Water
Turn on your garden hose and fill the pool.

You want to do this before adding any chemicals so that you get accurate readings.
Step 5: Run Equipment
Turn on your pump and double-check it is running properly.
Replace the filter cartridge if it feels like clogged.

Adjust the alkalinity before addressing pH.
Also add calcium chloride if the water’s calcium level (hardness) is too low.
Vacuum the pool floor as well.

Pour pool shock around the edges of the pool to help it disperse throughout the water.
Allow the filter to run overnight or at least six hours before testing the water again.
This is also a good time to apply algaecide if you’ve had problems with algae in the past.

Once the chlorine has reduced to between 1 and 4 ppm, you’re ready to swim.
Grab a towel and head on out to dive into the sparkling water.
