Pantry pests are common invaders any time of year, and theyre not picky about what theyll eat.

These include flour, cereals, rice, pasta, and nuts.

Spices and other dried plant material also can be infested, as well as dried fruits and chocolate.

Some pests prefer protein-rich foods, such as pet foods and treats, while others like starchier products.

Even items like kids pasta art or dried flowers can become infested!

With such a long list of items, anythings fair game to these little invaders.

These infestations can occur in the even cleanest house or the nicest grocery store, says Benson.

Although these pests dont transmit illnesses likecockroachesandfliesdo, they obviously make food unfit for consumption.

And, of course, finding anything wriggling around in your box of cereal or cornmeal is definitely upsetting.

Understanding Pantry Pests

The most common pantry pests are different types of beetles and moths.

The beetle grub and adult stages are what youll see nibbling on your food.

Once these pests get established, theyll munch away with overlapping generations present, says Benson.
