Plus, whyhe loves the colorful coleus plant.
Google says the cause is our sour mulch and there’s nothing I can do.
It’s even killed some of the grass next to the bed.

Do you have any remedies?
Grumpy Gardener Answer:I, as always, have answers to your problems.
And they make these huge mountains of mulch, and then it starts to rain.
It’s very acid, it’s caustic, and it can kill plants.
It should have been aged for about a year.
It’s very cheap.
Use about 50 pounds of lime per thousand square feet.
If that doesn’t correct your problem, you may have to put another program of lime down.
Let it decompose a little before you add more.
Plant of the Week
Coleus
People want solid, nonstop color in their gardens.
Most people, when they think of color, they think of flowers.
But when you get a plant with colorful foliage, you’ve got color every single day.
So that’s why I Iikecoleus, and especially the ones that are labeled Sun coleus.
The older forms of coleus were great, but they would burn up in the sun.
These new types will grow in full, blazing sun.
They’re very shrub-like and compact.
So they fill in really well.
There’s a zillion different colors: reds, oranges, yellows, pinks, greens.
Lots of different sizes.
There are dwarf-trailing ones, and bigger ones.
And the plant will look a lot prettier and a lot tidier.
