Posey draws out syllables in vowels that even some Southerners (me included) didn’t think previously possible.

It’s a refreshing performance.

Heres how I know.

Shes from my town.

She went to Laurel High School.

Posey has been playing funny Southern characters for years, including in cult favorites likeDazed & ConfusedandWaiting for Guffman.

Through it all, she’s clear about the fact that her upbringing inspires her approach to acting.

“I have all these funny lines,” Posey recently said onLate Night with Seth Meyers.

Being able to perform this part, it felt really good.”

“I am yourmother!”

It’s a familiar reminder of Southern habits of respect, politeness, and decentness.

I know them well.
