Ingredients for Cowboy Beans

A base of flavor starts with bacon, onion, and peppers.

)can pinto beans, drained and rinsed

1(15 oz.

)can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1(15 oz.

Transfer to paper towel lined plate.

Do not wipe pan clean.

Cook peppers and onions:

Add onion and pepper and increase heat to medium.

Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 10 minutes.

Add beef, salt, and cayenne, if using.

Add beans:

Add barbecue sauce, sugar, and mustard until combined.

Fold in beans, 3/4 cup of the bacon, and 1 1/4 cups of water.

Stir together until evenly coated.
