Stir together ice water and vanilla in a bowl until combined.

Break up, and evenly distribute any large wet flour clumps by hand.

(Finished dough should hold together easily but may not look completely smooth.)

Chill Pie Dough:

Divide dough in half, and shape each half into a 4-inch disk.

Roll out Pie Dough:

Preheat oven to 425F with rack in lower third position.

Press rolled dough into bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate.

Loosely cover with plastic wrap, and store in refrigerator while rolling other dough half.

Transfer to a lightly floured baking sheet; loosely cover, and store in refrigerator until ready to use.

Add blackberries, lemon zest and juice, and vanilla, stirring until evenly coated and well combined.

Fold edges under, and crimp, as desired.

Prepare the Topping:

Whisk together egg and water in a small bowl until combined.

Brush egg mixture evenly over dough.

Bake pie:

Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes; rotate baking sheet 180 degrees.

Let pie stand on a wire rack until cooled and set, 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
