So whenwe askedour Facebook followers What’s something you’d never cook in a cast-iron skillet?

they were full of responses.

Most people said that they cook everything in cast-iron, but there were a few exceptions.

And some funny responses too, like ice cubes.

And another group said they avoid tomatoes because the cast-iron gives acidic foods an unpleasant metallic flavor.

Another added: Our skillets are well-seasoned but used for savory dishes only.

For some people, this might just be a good excuse to acquire a collection of cast-iron.

Scrambled Eggs

This breakfast staple came up many times in our survey.

One person even called them not pretty.

Now, fried eggs cook beautifully in a cast iron skillet.

A little oil, sprinkled some salt, then your room temp egg.

Viola, you have yummy fried eggs.

All you need now is some creamy, cheesy grits.

One person replied: I dont like cabbage in a cast-iron pan.

It seems to turn dark and not look as good as I like.

Doesnt affect the taste, however.

And another person said: I cooked a dish with sauerkraut once.

Oh my!!!!

Thought I would NEVER rid my skillet of that awful odor!!

Fish

Speaking of odors, fish came up throughout the survey.

If this has happened to you before, read up on theproper way to clean your skillet.

Although, technically youcouldmake it in cast iron.

It really messed the skillet up.

I had to contact Lodge to find out how to get the rusty looking places out.

They told me what to do and also said to not leave pie in the skillet once cooked.

We’re big fans of skillet pies, especiallyapple.

Just don’t leave them in the pan too long.
