We spoke with cleaning experts to find out the six things that pet owners are forgetting to clean.

Here’s what we learned.

Water Bowls

Water bowls often seem harmless enoughafter all, they just hold water, right?

Thankfully, pet water bowls and fountains are pretty easy to clean.

They can be thrown into thedishwasherorhand-washedwith a little dish soap and water.

They need to be washed regularly, depending on how frequently they’re used by your pets.

Toys and bedding may need to be disinfected and deodorized every once in a while too.

Cavero does this by soaking toys and bedding in a solution ofvinegarandbaking soda.

A ratio of one part baking soda to three parts vinegar and water is best for this.

While litter boxes are an obvious must-clean, litter mats should be too.

Wilson cleans litter mats by first shaking away loose litter outside.

The pet hair can then be lifted away with a stiff-bristled brush or plastic paint scraper.

But vents need some attention too.

“Pet fur and dander easily clog vents, impacting air quality and airflow,” says Cavero.

Luckily, vents are easy to clean.

Just use a damp cloth or duster to slowly wipe the grates of each vent.

The importance of air quality in the home shouldn’t be understated, especially in homes with pets.
