Its also worrisome because many invasive plants still are sold at garden centers and online nurseries.

So, how do you know what plants are considered invasive?

The list can vary depending on where you live.

A plant can be problematic in one area but isnt considered invasive two states over, says Bennett.

It invades forests, fields, roadsides and streambanks,forming dense thicketsthat shade out native species.

Some states, such asSouth Carolina, offer a bounty, swapping native trees for your existing Bradford pears.

The tubular lavender-blue flowers are pretty, but itcan become invasivein some areas, says Bennett.

However, those characteristics alsomake it invasive, causing it to displace native species.
